Still in the spirit of celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth, here are some of my favourite reads by black authors. I absolutely love them and think you will too. Since the start of the pandemic, I have become a better reader, finishing at least one book a month. I've always loved to read but never made time for it. The pandemic has taught me to slow down and really enjoy the things that make the happy - like finishing a good book.
If you're an avid reader, they are books by black authors I suggest you begin with, especially if you're looking to educate yourself on race and issues that the black community faces on a daily basis. I have curated a diverse list of various genres and I hope you enjoy them.Â
The Skin We're In
Desmond Cole

We Should All Be Feminists
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Adapted from the much-admired TEDx talk of the same name—Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie offers readers a unique look into feminism for the 21st century, one rooted in inclusion and awareness. Drawing extensively on her own experiences and her deep understanding of the often masked realities of sexual politics, she explores what it means to be a woman now—and an of-the-moment rallying cry for why we should all be feminists.Â
Black Leopard, Red Wolf
Marlon James

Drawing from African history and mythology and his own rich imagination, Marlon James has written a novel that evolves with unforgettable characters. Black Leopard, Red Wolf is both surprising and profound as it explores the fundamentals of truth, the limits of power, and our need to understand them both.
Such a Fun Age
Kiley Reid

Such a Fun Age is a page-turning and big-hearted story about race and privilege, set around a young black babysitter, her well-intentioned employer, and a surprising connection that threatens to undo them both.
Clap When You Land
